Project Description

In a coup for the Sunshine Coast, Maleny Arts Council has secured a performance of Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking at Maleny on Tuesday 12 July 2022 by acclaimed national touring company Critical Stages.

Described by the New York Times as ‘thrilling and engaging – universal, profound… and uplifting’ Joan Didion’s celebrated memoir is brought to life by award-winning actor Jillian Murray in a critically-acclaimed solo performance.

This highly personal account of loss through the lens of hope unpacks a surreal and overwhelming time in Didion’s life as she faced the sudden loss of her husband John, and later her daughter Quintana. Deeply moving, sometimes funny, and ultimately joyful, this is one woman’s story of the journey to find acceptance, and the lessons learnt in letting go.

Maleny Arts Council Inc is an independently incorporated body with the mission to support, foster and promote quality arts events and experiences in Maleny and the Hinterland. MAC provides opportunities for participation in cultural experiences and community collaboration, and engages in audience development for the arts, including supporting local artists and arts groups.

Tax-deductible donations can be made through Sunshine Coast Arts Foundation to help stage this outstanding piece of theatre.
