D.I.V.E. THEATRE COLLECTIVE

D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective will develop and present Caprichos, a multimodal and immersive theatrical event in the Old Ambulance Station, Nambour in May 2022.

A Sunshine Coast contemporary physical theatre company, founded by Priscila Da Cunha and Cesar Genaro in 2017, D.I.V.E Theatre Collective will invite highly skilled local artists to collaborate in the creation of Caprichos, which will explore the vanities of modern society. Inspired by the series of satirical etchings by Francisco de Goya, Los Caprichos, the aim of the production is to bring the artist’s work to life and re-interpret the original meaning through contemporary eyes in the context of an art gallery, a theatre performance and a masquerade celebration.

The performative event will be presented in three acts: Delirios, a series of performance installations by eight to 10 local artists; Caprichos, a contemporary physical theatre performance, devised by D.I.V.E.’s ensemble performers; and Carnaval, a performative masquerade celebration, where the audience and performing artists dance, celebrate, interact, play, express themselves and experience a surreal world in which poetry, music and imagination rule.

Springing from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, D.I.V.E.’s aim is to investigate, experiment and create work in contemporary theatre integrating different areas of knowledge, art and philosophy that, once touched, transform and reconfigure the theatrical scene.
